Great wine begins in the vineyard. At Sequoia Grove, our vineyards lie at the heart of Rutherford, one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated appellations and a region renowned for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.

Rutherford’s distinctive terroir brings together deep, well-drained alluvial soils, abundant sunshine and warm days balanced by cool nights and fog from San Pablo Bay. These conditions allow the grapes to develop remarkable depth and concentration while retaining the elegance, finesse and balance that define the Sequoia Grove style.

Our two estate vineyards offer distinct expressions of this exceptional place. The 24-acre Sequoia Grove Estate Vineyard, surrounding the winery, and the 50-acre Tonella Estate Vineyard are both located in Rutherford, yet their different soils reveal individual facets of the appellation. Sequoia Grove Estate is influenced by ancient marine sediment and material carried down from the Mayacamas Mountains, while Tonella’s soils reflect the volcanic origins of the Vaca Mountains to the east.

Cabernet Sauvignon is at the heart of our vineyards, but our commitment goes beyond a single variety or site. Through long-standing relationships with outstanding growers across Napa Valley, we work with vineyards chosen for their distinctive soils, climate and elevation. Our Vineyard Series celebrates this diversity through site-specific wines that allow the character of each vineyard to come through.

We believe every wine should tell the story of where it comes from. Through careful, sustainable farming and minimal intervention in the vineyard, we strive to preserve the individuality of each site and create wines with a true sense of place.
